Longleaf Repertory Ensemble invites you to join us THIS Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 7pm (doors open at 6:30), for our annual Celebration of Short Plays! This event is an opportunity for our Proficient and Advanced students to showcase their in-class production projects for our friends and family, and serves as our final fundraiser event of the season.

Mom and Dad love to tell the story of how they met in 1986 -- "pretty much the most awesome year ever." Trouble is, they remember their courtship completely differently. Mom's version makes their meeting sound like a sappy romantic comedy while Dad somehow makes himself the star of a karate battle.

Based on a true story as reported in the series ‘This American Life’. Justin, a high school honors student falls for a cute transfer girl, Naomi. At her request, he tries to score her marijuana, hoping to impress her and take her to the prom. Things take a shocking turn when it turns out his crush is actually an undercover cop planted in the school to find drug dealers. -- "21 Chump Street" discusses the ramifications of peer pressure, conformity and drug use in our schools with a message that will stay with teenagers long after they leave the theater.

Faced with microscopic civilizations in their coffee and a corpse on their couch, a husband and wife attempt to cope with the loss of their son by reinventing the boundaries, rules, and nature of death. This short play is a ridiculous, comical, and dark examination of the unfairness and finality of dying.

Julia Hightower, a progressive, headstrong young woman is cornered in the garden by a rich, rakish suitor who has a secret about her that could ruin her life. Julia must choose between pragmatic comfort and societal ruin. "The Proposal" takes place in Regency Era England.

Based on the Philip K. Dick short story, this imaginative tale is about an average man living in the Mississippi Delta, whose reluctant actions to help a desperate band of elves leads them to name him their new king. Joining the innocent and endangered elves as they attempt to escape from an evil and menacing band of trolls, their unlikely new leader finds himself caught on a journey filled with unimaginable dangers and a chance to bring real meaning back to his own life.

I'm Just Digging a Hole in the Woods at 2AM. No Reason. Why Do You Ask...? (by Bradley Walton)
It's 2 a.m. so naturally, Halling is curious as to why her classmate Andrews is digging a hole when she encounters her in the woods on a cold January night. Of course, Andrews eventually has to ask what she is doing in the middle of the woods at 2 a.m. herself? The tension between them mounts hysterically as they both try to pass off their bizarre actions as casually as possible. Is one of them up to no good?

The "Happy Days LSA" podcast was created by students in the Advanced Theatre class with the idea of sharing Good News stories, fun conversations, Freshman advice, cute pet pictures, and MORE with our LSA students and families! In its inaugural season, the team crafted three entertaining episodes (shared below) and made plans to continue this exciting project with new/additional crew members when we return to campus in Fall 2021.
